~What Does It Mean When You Dream About Snakes?~

When you dream about snakes, chances are that the meaning of what you just dreamed about is related to challenging issues and feelings that you’re facing in your daily life.

According to Freud’s classic dream interpretation theory, a snake featured in a dream represents a phallic symbol that could relate to a male figure, male energy or how you experience your sexuality. Interpreting what your dream about snakes means does not stop there however. To fully understand its meaning, you need to look deeper into the interpretation of this rich symbol.

To start interpreting what dreaming about snakes means, here are the most common meanings associated with snakes in dreams:

  • A snake is a symbol of the unconscious
  • Snakes or serpents indicate you’re in the process of healing and resolving issues
  • The snake is a symbol for an untamed part of yourself or an untapped resource
  • Snakes could represent your intuition or spiritual aspects of yourself; your instinctual drive, what moves you from the depths of your soul
  • Snakes or serpents tend to show up in dreams in times of transition and transformation
  • From the classic Freudian perspective, a snake or serpent is a phallic symbol

Generally, a snake featured in a dream means that you’re dealing with a difficult situation or unsettling emotions in your waking life. On the positive side of this dream analysis, dreaming of snakes could also mean that healing and transformation are taking place.

A snake can appear in your dreams as an animal spirit guide or animal totem, bringing guidance about life direction and healing opportunities. >> Get more information about the snake as a spirit animal (Source: www.spiritanimal.info)

What does it mean to dream about snakes or have a snake in your dreams? Dreaming about snakes sometimes isn’t about the snake at all. SNAKES are symbolic of untapped creative energy, life force/the kundalini.

Snakes have historically been acquainted with evil, but that is not the typically accepted dream symbology. It is a symbol of rebirth, because of the way the snake sheds it’s skin.

In some cases, it can be a sexual symbol…but Freud thought just about everything was a sex symbol in dreams, so I am hesitant to even mention it; however, if these are the 2 dream themes you are having at the same time in your life, then these could be symbolic of your untapped sexual energy. This will often be experienced in puberty, and is normal.

The literal translation of kundalini means coiling, like a snake. This symbol of “coiling” represents ready & able energies which are not yet tapped into by the Self. That will happen as one becomes spiritually enlightened. The kundalini is like the base of operations of your consciousness, so when you are finally ready to move & make changes in your life, then the kundalini will pave the way for your consciousness to evolve & make those changes.

In some cultures snakes are highly regarded and symbolize the ability to transcend into higher levels of consciousness or into areas of knowledge that exist outside perceived time and space. In the pre-Christian days, snakes were considered symbols of fertility, healing, and nurturing (the healing serpent representing a god).

Post Adam and Eve, snakes are often considered symbols of temptation and evil, anger, and envy. Snakes emerging out of the ground may represent your unconscious or repressed materials coming to your conscious mind. Freud thought that the snake was a phallic symbol. It is amazing how many people have snake dreams! Most snake dreams seem to be disturbing and they leave the dreamer feeling anxious and afraid.

There are no simple interpretations to the snake dreams. Each dreamer must consider their own situation and all of the details of the dream. Sometimes snakes may be phallic symbols and other times they represent negativity in our lives that hampers our progress and constantly threatens us. In the long run the snake may be a positive symbol; it may represent difficulties that lead us to the center of personality and result in feelings of completeness.

Plese help me: I just woke up from a very intense dream in which i hurted a big dark brown snake. I dont know why but I was sure it was a female snake?! Weird I know!! (the sake was hidden in the dirt. I was digging in there and touched her accidently with my shovel) I tried to heal her but she kept defending herself. The snake tried to get away from me but i really wanted to clean her wound and put bandages on it before letting her go. Trying to do this the snake bit me twice. (It didn’t really hurt me) I managed to clean her wound but I wasn’t able to put bandages on it. I also remember that there were two very coulourful Gekkos in the gras. I remember them very well but I didn’t pay much attention to them because the snake seemed to be more important to me. This was about the weirdest dream I ever had and I really would like to know what it means. If someone can interpret this please comment below.

I had a dream this morning that a snake was attacking me and a friend of mine, and eventually our Math teacher found a way to lock the snake in a room. Could this be connected to the fact that I have a Math exam today and that it is suppressing my creativity and spirit, which is really angry?? lol but why attack ME and not the Math teacher or something??

It quite possibly is connected with your upcoming exam Elestiel, dreaming of snakes is often connected to challenging and stressful situations and things we feel are out of our control. Snakes or serpents also indicate that you are in a period of transition.
The most important point to remember when interpreting a snake dream is that to dream of one means you’re symbolically receiving a wake up call from your subconscious. Maybe you need to pay attention to something important that you have been avoiding or that has escaped your awareness until now. Interpreting your dream will help you discover what it is and what you could do to about it. Use your interpretation to encourage positive changes in your life. A snake dream can function like a two-sided coin: For each negative feeling in the dream, such as fear, apprehension, anxiety, or confusion, there’s an opportunity to realize something positive that will serve you in your waking life.
Wishing you love, light and laughter ~Mystic~

I was woken from a dream of several different types of snakes from pythons, adders, to cobras. The snakes would attack people who of which all would be about to embark on a journey of some sorts. The people that get bitten are all different and strangers to me. I however never get bitten but always witness the biting of these ppl. What could this possibly mean?

This is an interesting dream as it is others and not yourself who seem to be affected by the snakes, as I mentioned in an earlier comment, when snakes appear in your dreams it can signify hidden fears and worries that are threatening you. Your dream may be alerting you to something in your waking life that you are not aware of or that has not yet surfaced.
But seeing as the snakes are attacking random peole who are about to go on a journey, and these people are all strangers to you then maybe this signifies that you are worried about the welfare of others and fear that something untoward might happen to them.
Are you one of lifes worriers, do you see news reports that make you feel sad and maybe a little helpless that you can’t help people who are maybe in war torn countries or countries where there has been a natural disastor.

I dreamt I was praying at the alter with my eyes closed and when I open my eyes I notice a white snake coiled up with the head up, like a cobra, but it wasn’t a cobra. As I gaze at it it slowly slithers down from the alter and goes away. What is the significance or meaning of this dream.

It is said that to dream that you are praying or kneeling at an altar represents unfulfilled desires and a white snake represents a weak adversary, although a coiled or moving snake quite often represents the awakening of kundalini. Altogether quite a mixed bag here and quite a hard one to interpret without further investigation. http://thesecretmoongarden.ning.com/group/the-human-chakra-system/page/more-about-kundalini

I have dreamt 3 days on the back of each other that a black flat snake jumps at me and wraps itself around me. However, the snake is not attempting to suffocate me or bite me, but I still wake up full of anxiety with a fast heartbeat and then have trouble going back to sleep for fear of seeing the snake again.

Just a question… I had a dream recently that’s been bothering me. I’ve had a few dreams about snakes this past month and actually, some pretty bad ones about my husband leaving me, but the one that stuck with me was the one I had where my husband gave me a suitcase full of snakes. At first, I was excited about it, but then I realized the snakes where mean and they started to come at me. And my husband just smiled and walked away. Any input? I blame my husband for a nasty addiction… Could that be the meaning? Or am I worried about infidelity? We have a good relationship, tho. Thank you 🙂

There is certainly no reason to be scared of a dream, in fact dreaming of snakes is quite common and can have many different interpretations, one of them being that you are moving forward, are healing and have entered a phase of personal transformation. Most likely, you have moved beyond a hindrance on your path that existed till recently.
